‘The Big FAT Lie’ explores how powerful plant-based nutrition can be for our health. It tells the story of Grant, who is rushed to hospital with a heart attack at age 58 and how he then discovered that eating the right food could turn his life around. Over the course of his journey Grant interviews 7 professors, 9 doctors, health charities, the Ministry of Health and numerous health business specialists. He also shares case studies of others with heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer and gastrointestinal diseases.
Invite your loved ones, this is an experience that could be a game changer.
“Grant Dixon’s film stands apart with its unique, homegrown feel. His in-depth exploration of the whys and wherefores behind his own health scare introduces us to the diverse personalities leading the plant-based movement in our corner of the world. Any New Zealander with heart disease, or who is simply interested in the future health of our nation, needs to see this film.” Dr Luke Wilson, GP, Wellington.
The event is proudly supported by The Vegan Society of Aotearoa.
Dr Coral Dixon
Coral is a GP in Mt. Maunganui and has a key interest in “preventative medicine” after seeing first hand the evolving poor health outcomes which follow sub-optimal nutrition and unhealthy lifestyle habits. Coral and her family have gradually moved toward a whole food plant based lifestyle over the last 5 years both for long term health of our environment and personal health.
Dr Chloe Corbett
“On the day I became a qualified doctor, we spoke the words of a declaration based on the Hippocratic Oath. Hippocrates is said to be the father of modern medicine. One of his maxims is as relevant today than it was 2,000 years ago: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
Food has the power to cure disease and reform the body. The global medical industry is now turning its attention to the power of preventative medicine. Once the domain of naturopaths, preventative medicine is becoming one of the preeminent models of health.”
Dad, physio, coach, wellness evangelist and JC follower.
Brad is a physiotherapist and coach based at EVERFIT at the mount. He discusses plant based whole food diets with every client as it’s an important pillar of true wellness. Brad’s interest in eating a whole food plant based diet started after his father needed a quadruple bypass, and his uncle died of bowel cancer. He found that not only was a plant based diet great for health but his running improved to the point where he set a new PB for a half marathon of 1hr 16min at the age of 42.
